Student Credit Cards

A student credit card creates a convenient method of paying for goods and services for the higher education youths of today. You can apply to a range of student credit card lenders and the cards they provide have good flexibility for the consumer.

Student credit cards are usually international, so they can be used worldwide wherever the logo is shown. Student credit cards can provide instant access to cash without additional fees, and you can purchase goods easily either in person, over the phone, or over the internet. Some companies offer protection on purchases, and can insure your goods if lost or stolen. Travel insurance is also sometimes provided.

Student credit cards can, however, be expensive and hard to control if bargains start to get the better of you regularly. Good advice is to always keep your receipts of the purchases you have made. Mistakes occur and you it is always best to check your receipts with your monthly credit card statement. Any mistakes should be reported immediately to the card company. Sometimes, other forms of borrowing maybe the cheaper option, maybe a personal loan or an extended overdraft. These options are a consideration before applying for a student credit card. Purchases that are made abroad may not be on your statement for a few months which makes it difficult to see whether or not you have been debited for them.

When deciding which student credit card to choose from, you will need to assess what the card will be used for. An example is if you use the card for high street shopping and are wanting to repay in full every month, then credit cards that offer long "interest free periods" with a "no annual fee" would be the wiser option. If the card will be used for simple ongoing borrowing, and repayment is intended to be paid off with the minimum amount every month, then a short "interest free period" and lower APR rates would be better. If you are a frequent traveller, consider a student credit card that offers a direct debit repayment option.
