Credit Card Application

Credit card application forms are usually divided into various areas. The first area of the credit card application is usually the "personal section." This is where the applicant would fill in his personal details, ie name, address, contact details, etc. The second area of the credit card application is normally the bank details section, which is closely follwed by an employment and/or income section. All of these areas are important, but within each are details of significant importance in terms of the successful progression of your credit card application.

The applicant's credit score will be sent back by the credit reference agency and this will be the main subject matter in the decision of the credit card company to accept the credit card application. If all goes well you should get a credit card if the card company believes that you are able to pay back your debt.

Customers are not usually told the reason behind their credit card application being rejected, but from past applications it is suggested that some area can make more of a difference than others. The most important fact is that you should tell the truth on the application, but it would be useful to know which areas of the application are most important. These details will determine which credit card you could be accepted for, so this information could possibly save you some time, and given you a better insight, when filling out credit card application forms.

One of the most important detail required, is your address. The company will want to know not just your current address, but usually for the last 2 or 3 years, so make sure you have that information available and you may need proof at a later stage. This information will make it easier for the credit agency to find you in their files and will benefit you in a credit check. If you are a tenant, you are at a slight disadvantage, as many companies believe a homeowner has more assets and so are more secure. If you are not a homeowner that does not mean you will not be successful, but if you are a tenant (and have moved quite often in the last 3 years) the reference agency will score you lower on your credit card application.

The bank details section is also very important, as many credit card companies will prefer you to payback in installments each month by direct debit, rather than relying on you paying the minimum amount possible. Your bank details is also a source of your financial history, therefore you will need to give details of who your bank is and has been for the last 3 or sometimes 5 years.
